Abstract

SWAHILI

Utafiti huu ulishughulikia itikadi kuhusu jinsia katika nyimbo za kampeni za kisiasa katika Kaunti ya Bomet nchini Kenya. Ulichunguza kama nyimbo za kampeni za kisiasa zilichangia kuchaguliwa kwa wanawake wachache kuliko wanaume katika uchaguzi mkuu. Lengo mahususi la utafiti huu lilikuwa kufasili jinsi nyimbo za kampeni za kisiasa hueleza suala la itikadi kuhusu jinsia. Utafiti huu uliegemea nadharia ya Ubabedume. Huu ni utafiti wa kithamano mkabala wa kifasili. Mtafiti alizikusanya nyimbo hamsini na mbili za kisiasa ambazo zilikuwa zimerekodiwa katika kanda. Sampuli ya kimakusudi ilitumika kuteua nyimbo ishirini na mbili za kampeni za kisiasa ambazo zilikuwa zinaambatana na jinsia. Wasanii kumi na sita waliimba nyimbo hizo ambazo zikawa deta za kuchanganuliwa. Mtafiti alikusanya deta kwa kuzisikiliza kanda za nyimbo na kutumia mwongozo wa maswali ya mahojiano. Alitumia mbinu ya ufasili wa deta katika utafiti huu. Matokeo ya utafiti huu yalidhihirisha kwamba wagombezi wa kiume walipewa uwezo, hadhi ya juu na mamlaka hasa kulingana na nguvu zao za kimwili. Mtafiti apendekeza kwamba utafiti zaidi ufanywe kuchunguza namna ya kusawasisha uwezo wa mwanaume na mwanamke kupitia vyombo vingine vya kijamii.

ENGLISH

This study addressed gender ideology in political campaign songs in Bomet County, Kenya. It examined if political campaign songs contributed to the election of fewer women than men during the general election. The specific aim of this study was to explain how political campaign songs express the issue of ideology about gender. This study was based on the Hegemonic Masculinities theory. This is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. The researcher collected fifty-two political songs that had been recorded on tape. Purposive sampling was used to select twenty-two political campaign songs that were gender specific. Sixteen artistes sang the songs that became the data to be analysed. The researcher collected data by listening to music tapes and using a guide of interview questions. The method of data interpretation was used in this study. The results of this study revealed that male candidates were given power, high status and authority especially according to their physical strength. The researcher suggests that more research can be done to examine how to balance the power of men and women through other social media.
